The Apocalypse Statue is undoubtedly one of the most appreciated and sought-after pieces of the entire Bowen catalogue. In fact, the statue (sculpted by the Kucharek brothers and released back in 2007) always exhibits very high prices on ebay international websites, in spite of the rather good availability and a edition size of 2000 pieces! The fearful enemy of the X-Men stands on a tower in a museum pose, showing a massive and well defined musculature on chest, abdomen and legs. The arms are bent upwards, thus highlighting the incredible swelling of biceps and triceps, while the epicness of the figure is emphasized by the large open hands and a giant rib cage. The display can be changed by replacing the left hand with a huge automatic double-barrel rifle (carved with a maniacal attention to detail), which completely covers the forearm of the character and gives an even more impressive and aggressive appearance to the whole figure. Also the details of the costumes are made in a workmanlike manner: the large, rigid elements on shoulders and neck, the horizontal streaks that embellish gloves and boots, the massive "A" centered on the abdomen and the long flexible metal hoses which provide the character with a high-tech, almost robotic aspect! The coloring is beautiful, due to the chromatic contrast offered by the costume design and the perfect sinergy between the many black patches and the metallic tone of the background blue, with tenuous nuances that point out each contour of muscles at best. The silvery face is awesome! The somatic features (small and crushed nose, prominent cheekbones and arched eyebrows) are very faithful to Comics; they outline a haughty and detached expression and are the optimal backdrop to the essential, aesthetic peculiarity of Apocalypse: the purple contours which define the mouth and characterize its profile by square and embossed lines, up to behind his nape. The base is carved and made with great care: it is a circular platform with hexagonal steps, embellished by side turrets depicting ancient Egyptian hieroglyphics, just to remember the remote origins of the character. Ultimately, a majestic statue with a relevant aesthetic impact and a must-have for every Marvel collector, especially for those who love the varied mutant world.
